The Ms. Marvel cast shows off their matching tattoos!

The stars of the upcoming Ms. Marvel television show, Lauren Marsden and Yasmeen Fletcher have revealed matching tattoos of the titular character’s trademark lightning bolt symbol in their interview with Variety. According to them, no less than a dozen cast and crew members from the Marvel Studio’s upcoming Disney+ series have gotten the same matching tattoos after the filming was concluded. You can see the interview below:
As reported by ScreenRant, the interview took place during the Spider-Man: No Way Home premiere, during which Lauren Marsden and Yasmeen Fletcher, portraying Zoe Simmer and Nakia Bahadir respectively, discussed the matching tattoos. “Everyone in the cast got matching Ms. Marvel tattoos in their own little way,” said Marsden, with a red lightning bolt symbol which that would reflect her character’s red hair. According to Fletcher, 12 members of Ms. Marvel’s cast and crew got tattoos to mark the occasion, including members of the main cast and supporting cast, to the stunt team.
The upcoming Disney+ series is based on Marvel Comics character Kamala Khan, also known as Ms. Marvel, is slated for a 2022 premiere date as part of the MCU’s Phase 4, which added television releases into the canon narrative, beginning with WandaVision. The development of the series, with Iman Vellani as lead character Kamala Khan, began back in 2019, with filming concluding earlier this year. Marvel’s sixth television series to share continuity with massively-successful cinematic releases will center around a young fan of Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, and the rest of the Avengers, as the titular character struggles to fit in until she discovers her own superpowers.
The Ms. Marvel television series is setting up a continuity leading up to The Marvels, which arguably started following the appearance of Carol Danvers in the MCU. However, that’s not entirely true — the continuity setup began with the appearance of Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau in WandaVision. It’s unclear whether she’s set to appear in Ms. Marvel as well, but it would be nice to see her become Spectrum from the comics. Both Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan are set to appear alongside Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers in the upcoming The Marvels release.
The addition of Ms. Marvel in the MCU isn’t all that surprising following the massive success of 2018’s Black Panther, which garnered $1.3 billion at the box office — and became the highest-grossing film directed by a Black filmmaker. It’s an important step for Marvel Studios to diversify their superhero roster and introduce new faces to the screen. When you think about it, this is Chris Hemsworth’s tenth, nearly eleventh year as the God of Thunder, who’s also set to appear on the silver screen in his fourth solo installment.
Thanks to the massive success of Black Panther, the fandom finally got what they wanted, a more diverse roster of superheroes. This push for diversity has yielded some fantastic results, such as Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and some less fantastic, like The Eternals, which didn’t fare as well. Regardless, we’re glad that Marvel finally started flipping through their extensive catalog of superheroes from all backgrounds to diversify the franchise.
